Ships Movement Information Display System [SMIDS] – KW919-SMIDS

Ships Movement Information Display System (SMIDS) measures speed over the ground at the Bow and the Stern of the vessel giving highly accurate speed and movement information, in realtime, to the ship’s Master, officer and pilot.

The system uses high precision satellite technology to replace the popular, yet somewhat unreliable, SONAR Doppler-docking systems.

The system uses two GPS/Glonass receivers to monitor the vessels movement at the bow and stern, giving a mean velocity better than +/- 0.02 knots.

SMIDS is a highly popular products and many ship’s Masters are reluctant to sail using the Doppler system and are opting for SMIDS in its place.
